Christina Nijim
About the Filmmaker | Photographer | Artist
My name is Christina Nijim, I was born and raised in “Palestine”. A country that has been occupied for 80 years.
A child of war, I was brought up in so much darkness that it eventually became my light.
At times we had extreme siege for months, no electricity and no schools. If you leave your house, you get shot.
A numb child in fifth grade, laying in a dark corner on a mattress, with missiles and gun shots all around. And yet all I could hear in my head was the voice of Mary Poppins assuring me “Anything can happen If you let it”.
When we had hours of electricity my parents would grant me the blessing of watching movies on our VCR. Musicals like “The Sound of Music” & “Mary Poppins”, gave me the ability to mask all the terrifying sound effects surrounding me with the power of music and the magic of film.
Movies literally saved my life.
Ever since that day I knew what my purpose in life is, I knew why I was granted magical sight, I knew why I saw the world differently. I vowed to myself to bless a soul going through the harshness of life, the terror of war, and the mutilation of humanity.
I am here to inspire dreamers, I am here to warm hearts.
And here I am, a child of war, crafting with the mind of a dreamer, for dreams are the truth in disguise.
